Clementine is excited but also apprehensive about her turn as “Friend of the Week” in her third grade class. She worries that her classmates might not be able to come up with enough nice comments for her “Friend of the Week” booklet. The story revolves around Clementine’s search for things she can say or do that will influence her classmates to write nice comments. Just as Clementine thinks she has the right trick, her pet kitten Moisturizer disappears. Clementine’s angst with people’s opinions would be easily understood by children of this age. An additional complication for Clementine is her friend Margaret, who doesn’t seem like much of a friend. But Margaret comes through in the end when Clementine needs her the most. Clementine has a supportive family environment in which to live.
The other books in the series are Clementine, The Talented Clementine, and Clementine’s Letter.
