Necessary journeys. We all come to the point one day when we know we need to take some steps that will lead us away from our "normal" lives. There may be no map that shows us where our end point is and we may have no idea how far we are going to go or how long we will be "going" but we take that first step any way.
At 52 Deckawoo Drive one morning, Baby decided she had a necessary journey to take. Her sister, Eugenia, had directed her to write the words mouse and trap on her to-do list. For Baby that was a to-don't. She just could not bring herself to buy mousetraps to do away with the mice who were sharing their home.
It was time to pack a few things in a suitcase and go forth. Baby didn't know where forth was but she was willing to go. Her journey takes her to a train and being that this is a Kate DiCamillo journey Baby naturally meets a delightful series of characters as she rides along.
Charming and a bit of a nudge for all of us to open our eyes to our own necessary journeys, this is a story that will tug at all who read it since there is undoubtedly a necessary journey or two or three hiding somewhere near our own hearts that is waiting to see the light of day.
Fun, honest, warm and filled with understanding and promise....and jellybeans
