An exquisitely illustrated modern fable about protecting our planet, in which Earth is imagined as a beautiful, precious, and vulnerable creature called the Wild. From the author-illustrator of The Tree That's Meant to Be.

Once upon a time, somewhere not far away, was the Wild. The Wild was huge and giving, and everything from insects to birds to humans made their home in it. At first, people lived lightly and took only what they needed, but when they started to take more, the Wild suffered. But one day, a young child is brave enough to raise their voice . . .

In this environmental story told as a fairy tale, author-illustrator Yuval Zommer shares a hopeful and powerful message of healing, well-being, and humanity's precious and precarious relationship with nature.

The magical artwork and sensitively told story will help families have meaningful conversations with young children about the urgency to protect Earth.---from the publisher

*********

It is exquisitely important that our children learn to "see" the natural world around them. It's amazing how many people have stopped seeing the natural world around them. How many people (adults and children) do you know who don't know the difference between a blue jay and a bluebird?

If we are going to save our planet, we are going to need to recognize that we live here along with thousands of other species. They have homes and lives and families and they know how to do their job without us telling them. You just may discover they are absolutely incredible when you start getting to know your "natural" neighbors a little bit better.

This book, this glorious book, delivers the wonder and the power of the natural world that holds us. This book introduces children to "The Wild" which is a living thing moving and breathing around our planet. The Wild rests and The Wild creates twigs and burrows and "everything people needed for their homes." For thousands of years The Wild flourished. People thought "The Wild is so huge and giving that there will always be enough for us."

But was there? But is there? "And then, one day, The Wild was no longer able to give."

Now it's our turn to take care of The Wild. Now it's our turn to stop hurting The Wild.

Making The Wild into a being that we can relate to, connect with and understand is genius. It brings the problem to a level we can work with and we can begin to heal The Wild step by step.

This is a gorgeous book that honors The Wild around us. It's a feast for the eyes. It's a call to the heart of each one of us.

It's time to take care of The Wild. It's not the job of the kids. It's our job as adults. But it's wonderful to introduce children to the incredible wonder of the planet that holds them. How lucky they are.

Now let's get to it.
