Betsy Dowdy was a brave girl who made a midnight ride to alert American army of impending British attack during the American Revolution. This is only a legend not supported by facts, but is a wonderful example of the support of all citizens at this time of American history. Spotlighting the role of a young lady is also effective for today's young readers.
Excellent supplemental reader for study of American Revolution in elementary school classes. Also useful for units on heroic actions in stressful times.
