Ah, the perfect family comes to suburbia in Tangerine, Florida. Yes, there's Dad, the perfect provider, and Mom, the perfect volunteer. Then, there's Erik, the family hero and future professional football player being recruited by all the top teams. Wait, how did Paul get in there? He's legally blind because of a childhood accident, and no one stops to notice what a great soccer goalie he is. All the family can see is the greatness of Erik's football talent. The voice of Paul rings true, and you follow his adjustment to his new home and new life with hope and admiration. The plot unfolds as Paul starts to see things as they really are and then uncovers the family secret. Bravo. This is one of my favorite middle school books. Ages 9-13 320 pages
