This lovely book is exactly what we all want motherhood to be. It gives us the nursery rhymes we've sung for generations so we can keep that connection with the mothers and grandmothers and greats who have come before us. The listening ears will deliver the new vocabulary and rhymes and rhythms to the neurons so the much-needed neural pathways will build. You've seen the nursery rhymes before but I don't remember ever seeing them with the illustrations done in oh so charming embroidery. You just have to see this. It is so lovely and so gentle and so nurturing.
The words are here for you but the melodies are not included so if you did not grow up hearing these (and few will know all of these) you will need to get a cd from the library or go online to your favorite music source and hear what the melody sounds like. When I worked in a public library I had many non-native born parents tell me they were afraid to read aloud or sing aloud to their children in English. They wanted their children to have the accent that Americans use. I always, always told them that the voice their children want to hear the most in the entire universe is THEIR voice. So, please don't hesitate. Sit down with this simply lovely book, turn on the cd, and you will quickly pick up the rhythm and you can share some very special moments with your own little one.
