So, remember Nancy Drew and how you read one of her books after another? Meet Sammy Keyes, a ten-year-old girl, who lives with her grandmother in a "home" where no children are allowed. Sammy is the kind of young lady who faces life head-on and rises to every occasion. The delight of these books is seeing how Sammy takes on the mystery in her life, in this case she has spotted a thief in the hotel across the street, and she's determined to get to the bottom of the case. Entertaining and not too scary! You don't HAVE to read them in order, but they do link to each other, so reading in order might add to the fun. Other books in the series include Sammy Keyes and the Sisters of Mercy (Book 2), Sammy Keyes and the Runaway Elf, Sammy Keyes and the Curse of Moustache Mary, Sammy Keyes and the Hollywood Mummy, Sammy Keyes and the Skeleton Man, and Sammy Keyes and the Psycho Kitty Queen.

Sammy’s mother has left town to make it big in Hollywood. That means that she is now
in the care of her grandmother who lives in an apartment that does not allow children! To
keep the secret and avoid Mrs. Graybill, the suspicious and nosey neighbor, Sammy has
learned how to cover her tracks and stay hidden. During the times that she is stuck in the
apartment, she has learned to amuse herself by watching the neighborhood through a pair
of binoculars. It was just such a day when she witnessed the robbery in one of the rooms
of the Heavenly Hotel on her street. The problem was that the robber also noticed her
watching with the binoculars! This started the adventure of Sammy trying to solve the crime
and avoid getting thrown out of her grandmother’s apartment.
The adventure has Sammy looking for clues while trying to avoid getting into trouble at
school or in-between delicious Double Dynamo ice cream treats. Mystery lovers will enjoy
this high-spirited character and be ready to read more of Sammy Keyes adventures.
