Mercy Watson to the Rescue

Mercy Watson to the Rescue

Mr. and Mrs. Watson have a pig named Mercy. They love her dearly and every night they tuck her into bed and sing her to sleep. On this night the door to Mercy's room has closed and it is dark all around her. Mercy is not happy and she gets out of her bed and goes in to sleep with Mr. and Mrs. Watson. They are all tucked nicely under the covers dreaming good dreams when suddenly there is a loud noise. The floor under the bed is cracking and the bed is starting to fall. Mercy wakes up thinking about toast and decides to go look for some leaving the Watsons hanging on to their bed for dear life. Mercy's search takes her to the neighbors house where they mistake her for a monster and call the fire department for assistance. The charm of this book lies in the utter bliss that Mercy experiences in just about everything-especially the things that have to do with stacks of buttered toast. The neighbors squabble and chase while the Watsons are holding on to the bed with everything they've got and quite happily all the loose ends are tied up neatly and then buttered and served up to a very heroic porcine wonder. 75 pages Ages 5-9
