First, first, first. As far as one little pig, Pinkerton, is concerned first is the place for him. First in the picnic basket, first on the bus, first to read the book, and first in line. It's as though he can't even see that anyone else is around him who might want to be first too.
"Me first. ME FIRST! ME FIRST!" Then, one day on a Pig Scout troop outing, as he is leading the line..first, of course, across the hills of sand, this playfully drawn fellow hears the call of the wild sandwich. "Who would care for a sandwich?" comes the voice ... several times. Pinkerton mulls it over for a split second and then charges off to be first in the sandwich line. But as he tromps over the ridge, he is quite surprised to discover a small green creature... indeed a sand witch.
What's he gotten himself into with his ME FIRSTS? Will he be the first in line to "care" for her? The tables turn on Pinkerton quicker than he can say "I'll take two." Our clever Sandwitch has quite the list of tasks that need doing.
Turns out she is even more than a Sandwitch...she's a teacher! She knows exactly what our "pink, plump" friend needs and she knows just how to help him understand he is first in line for the wrong things in life.
A glorious read aloud about taking turns, selfishness and being pushy. Can be found as a large picture book and a smaller reader version.
