The Mallory series continues. This is a great series for girls who like to read about girls in various situations. It's a bit of what I call "social reading" just because Mallory is usually involved in some sort of personal or relationship issue. This time fourth grader Mallory has high hopes for her new year at school but quickly figures out that she and her best friend like the same boy. Ah the angst. To complicate matters Mallory manages to break more than a few of the Ten Classroom Commandments. The authentic feelings and reactions ring true for young readers. If you're trying to wean a girl off of Junie B. Jones, this is a good place to start. Read Mallory On Board annotation to get a feel for the storylines. Ages 7-10 170 pages
