Maggie is always full of questions, but a young maid in a fine house isn’t supposed to wonder. A little dog named Oliver is pushing his nose along an icy sidewalk searching for his lost mistress, or at least something to eat. No matter how hard he looks, he can’t find either one, but he does see a girl with blue eyes and a golden locket. A girl who calls him Lucky, and maybe he is.

After Maggie disobeys her mistress, she loses her job as a housemaid and her home. All she has is a warm winter coat and a locket that contains a picture of a woman Maggie is sure must be her mother. Oliver, a dog, wakes one morning to discover his mistress has died but he can’t find her anywhere. Maggie and Oliver cross paths and become friends as Maggie struggles to stay alive in the Boston winter until an act of possible thievery lands her just where she is meant to be all along. This is a cute story about friendship and finding your way.
