Houghton Mifflin Books for Children, 2011

A mother and baby loon wake up in their nest.  When the mother goes in search of food, the baby misses her and becomes worried and fearful as time passes.  The baby goes looking for the mother under the water with no success and decides to go home.  Where is home?  The baby loon starts crying and the mother suddenly returns with the baby's dinner.  With new confidence the baby shows his mother how he can swim underwater.  They head for the nest since it is time to go home.  A special note for teachers is the effective use of descriptive language in this book.
