Nore's father has just gotten remarried to a woman, Lisette, with two children. On summer vacation from school Nore goes to visit and get to know her new stepfamily. Almost immediately Nore senses that something if off kilter about her new family. Josie is 13 but her outbursts seem to be more than just normal teen ansgt. The family is cut off from neighbors on their Louisiana plantation. From the things that Josie and her brother Gabe let slip, Nore is convinced that whatever is wrong with the three has been wrong for a very long time.

Very suspenseful book. I first read this book many, many years ago. (Which is funny after you read the book. Or if you're me.) I have never forgotten the story. The title and author, yes. The story, no. I actually think about this story from time to time. The ending has always really stayed with me. I was probably about Josie's age when I read it, maybe a little younger. It is great for girls that age who want a little drama and suspense in their books.
I was browsing at a local used book store this afternoon. I went straight to the kids/teen section because I am always looking to bolster my collection of books in my classroom. I saw this book and I knew instantly that it was the one that has been stuck in my head for so long. It was very much a "Eureka" moment. It is always so fabuous to find a book that you remember from your past. I'm going to be selfish (or is that shelf-ish? {that is a joke}) and keep this one for myself. Now that I've got it again, I don't want to forget it.
