At the beginning of the story, a minnow and a tadpole are happy, swimming friends. Gradually, the tadpole changes into a full grown frog and hops out of the pond. Off he goes into the great big world and when he returns he has grand stories to tell of all he has seen beyond the pond. He describes cows and people and as he talks the minnow listens and imagines in his mind what these strange things look like. Eventually, the minnow decides the pond is simply not enough for him and he decides to throw himself up onto the bank so he can set out to find these wonders for himself.
