Fergus, a mouse, loves being the class pet in Miss Maxwell's classroom. He always listens carefully and follows directions every time. So he is surprised to hear that the class is going on a field trip to the Museum of Natural History and leaving him behind. No twinkling stars in the planetarium? No rocks and minerals? For once, Fergus is not going to follow directions.
Fergus stows away in a backpack and rides the bus to the huge museum. He sets off to explore and meets another mouse anemd Zeke who knows his way and together the two new friends slide down dinosaur bones and wait hopefully for butterflies to land on their noses.
Suddenly Fergus realizes he doesn't see Miss Maxwell's class anymore. Are his days as class pet over? Will he be left behind?
