One thing leads to another as you well know and get ready for this cumulative, rhyming story told from the authoritative voice of a girl who is emphatically exhorting the dog NOT to slam the door. If you slam that door, you're bound to wake the cat and tangle the yarn. If pa wears those lumpy socks, trouble awaits for sure and it's in the form of a honey hive alive with swarming bees. Imagine it. Bees stinging a bear who is headed into the barn-a catastrophe in the making. Those cows are running for their lives and headed into the house tangled in the yarn. That little girl has had more than enough. She warned everyone and now she's taking charge. Bees first, get back into the hive. The bees spell out OK and head off followed by the cows. Whew! She sits down for a much needed nap just as the dog pushes through the door to kick off the frivolity one more time! Laughs abound and the chaos is delightful. There's a sense of the power of the child being able to make sense and tidiness out of all the characters at least while her eyes are open. A romp. Ages 4-7 32 pages
