Bob Books, Set Three (Word Families)
Set Three in the Bob Book series introduces readers to longer words of four or more letters and more complicated sentences, as well as an increased number of sight words. Children also discover words with different endings, as -y, -ly and others make their appearance. Even the pictures become a bit more complicated as the speech bubble makes its debut in this set. At this stage, children are able to sound out words and even anticipate new terms thanks to the skills they have developed in previous sets. Set Three differs from the other sets, in that it includes two activity books designed to encourage children to review new vocabulary and reading comprehension skills. Developed by an early education teacher, Bob Books are designed to build on each other and give early readers the opportunity to develop skills while still having the confidence to finish an entire book. These are the books I go to first when I am working with the parent of a brand new reader. They're so simple and give kids a great sense of "Hey, I can do this," in those first days of reading. Feeling that sense of mastery is SO important.
