The Bailey kids are going to Camp Lone Wolf. Howie is reading the book Creatures of the Deep. It’s a neat book about monsters that live in the water. Camp Lone Wolf has a brand new sign: Camp Lone Wolf: A Home for Every Plant and Creature. The kids hear bagpipe music as they pull into camp. They see a pale slender woman dressed in a wet suit, facemask, and green flippers. She is Nessie McFarland. Mr. Jenkins introduces her as the new swimming instructor, who will also teach them how to snorkel. Nessie tells them that there are riches to be found beneath the waters and the kids think it may be pirate's treasure! Nessie tells them that she likes the waters in Loch Erin, because it is safer than where she is from in Scotland. They find the water in the lake is very cold, and Nessie can swim without making a sound! There are strange, scary splashes coming from the middle of the lake. Howie tells them about the Loch Ness Monster, which is discussed in the book he is reading. He thinks that Nessie McFarland has fled Scotland because she is the Loch Ness Monster! The kids realize that Nessie’s life will be ruined if people find out she is the Loch Ness Monster.
