An Elephant in the Garden

No one at the nursing home believes Lizzie as she tells a fantastic story about an elephant in the garden. Lizzie shares her story with Karl and his mom one winter’s day, as Karl helps rekindle her memories. Lizzie recalls for them the story of how her mother, who worked at the zoo, came to keep Marlene in the garden to save her life.

WWII was coming to an end, the city of Dresden had been bombed, the Russians were closing in from one side and the Americans were approaching from another. Keeping the family safe is difficult while traveling with an elephant. Lizzie shares an incredible journey of survival, love, sacrifice and family during a long difficult winter that changed her family’s life forever.
