First Day On Earth

The story begins in a locker room shower with high school boys discussing shall we say a young lady's interesting body parts.. and with no trace of respect in the conversation. The story ends in the most meaningful, valiant, courageous place on Earth...the heart and soul of a young man who has found the wonder of himself and the wonder of our planet. On this winding road we begin with Mal, a teenager who believes he has been abducted by aliens for four days and returned to the Earth full of pain delivered first class by his family and feeling as though he does not belong here any more. He wants passionately to return to the alien world. Along the way he will meet Posey, Darwyn and Hooper all of whom have an image they present to the world and a different reality of who they really, truly are as human beings walking on their own paths. Posey, she of the interesting body parts, has a wound. Everyone does. In that way we are all aliens and the story offers that wisdom for every teen who feels alone, different, somehow less than others who appear to have it all together. Cecil Castellucci has written a beautiful story that will absolutely resonate with the lost, the lonely... in other words... all of us. Now, the character of Hooper, is fascinating...he offers us hope that just maybe there is another world out there and there is something greater than ourselves. The plot tightens in measured steps. It's just wonderful as we all wait along with Mal to discover the truth. Is Hooper an alien from another planet? Are others coming to back to take him home? In a most touching, inspiring, and mind thrilling finale, we find our answer as does Mal. Ages 14 and up for touches of crassness but an absolute beauty for our mature readers. 150 pages
