Banished

16 year-old Hailey has lived her entire life on the wrong side of the tracks, in a neighborhood the rich kids call “Trashtown,” with her drug-dealing grandmother and four-year-old foster brother Chub. She looks forward to the day when she turns 18 and can leave with Chub to begin a new life. Her plans are derailed when a classmate’s accident in gym class triggers her gift, the ability to heal others. As Hailey searches for answers about her past and her abilities, she learns what can happen when her gift is taken too far or the ability is abused. The ending is rushed; however, it does set the stage for a sequel. This book is for mature readers. 293 pages.

(note - While the story is a bit improbable and the action rushed, it will appeal to readers who enjoy supernatural tales.)
