Waiting for Winter

Sebastian Meschenmoser

this is a wonderful book to share side by side with a young listener. Deer tells Squirrel all about snow and now Squirrel really wants to see what it looks like. But it's hard to wait for snow. Squirrel tries exercise to stay awake. The pencil sketches of Squirrel and the animals who join him and hilarious and charming. Imagine Squirrel and Hedgehog standing on a fallen log in the forest singing "sea shanties" together! Mouths openwide. Hedgehog is in full voice as Bear stumbles up. He doesn't like all this noise. The look on his face is priceless. He wants peace and quiet. Bear helps Squirrel and Hedgehog wait for snow. Then, miraculously, Hedgehog finds snow. He lifts his first snowflake high into the air and imagines when all the sky is filled with flakes. Now, Hedgehog's flake closely resembles a toothbrush. But, do you want to tell him? Then, Squirrel thinks he's found it. "It's white and cold and inside, it's a ilttle wet." How wonderful! (hint: it's a tin can) Bear comes up with his own version of the first snowflake. Oh, this is just so much fun. At last, the snow comes. Wonderful, just wonderful. 56 pages
