Zoey is packing her suitcase to drive with her mother to her grandmother's house. Zoey feels a bit of hesitation because this is the first time she has ever met her grandmother. Instead of the heartwarming moments you would expect, mother and grandmother immediately begin yelling at each other. They disappear into the kitchen with voices raised and Zoey slips off upstairs to escape them. She finds a dollhouse and a tiny beautiful doll. The doll is Princess Regina, an imperious entity, who comes alive to issue demands and commands to Zoey. Zoey is enchanted and goes to do her bidding. But, Princess Regina cannot stay "awake" at all times. Sometimes she becomes rigid and still and you just can't reach her. She's gone. What can bring her back? Tears-salty tears. Together Zoey and Princess Regina make this discovery and when the shouting in the kitchen stops and Zoey goes downstairs looking for her mother, they make another discovery. Zoey's mother is leaving. Do not be fooled by the lovely curly red-headed girl and the tiny golden haired princess in pink on the cover of this book. This is a book of substance and will reach deeply into the heart's and souls of children especially those who have parents with any sort of depression, drug abuse, alcoholism or other emotional issues which cause them to "disappear" from their children's lives for periods of time. 128 pages
