Wow! This is a powerfully sensitive, empathetic book about loss that would be a soothing, validating, reassuring tool for children and adults who are experiencing loss especially the loss of a loved one. A little boy opens the story on the day before his mother will die. He is angry as he talks with her because she is going to leave him forever. That night she passes away and he wakes to a house that does not have her smell, her compassion, her wisdom, her momness anymore. He's left now with a father who is sad. The little guy feels it is his job to take care of his father. He worries that he'll forget his mom and even though it's summertime, he won't let his father open the windows for fear mom's smell will disappear forever. This author's ability to "feel" the pain along with the reader and to really reach in and share that feeling.. to truly understand it.. is remarkable. This book could be read aloud to any child, classroom, inner child to offer hope that healing is possible and can happen to you. Well done. Ages 4-adult ISBN 978-07636-53415
