The Christmas Tree Ship

Tradition is such an important part of the Christmas season and this thoughtful little book is all about carrying on the rituals and routines that lend such meaning to this time of year. This is the story of a family with three little girls, Hazel, Pearl and little Elsie and the mother and father. Father is captain of a schooner that fishes in the warm weather and carries Christmas trees to the city when the holiday season rolls around each year. Father and his crew carefully chop the trees and load the ship. Then, they sail down Lake Michigan to the city of Chicago. Then, one year the snows come early and Captain Herman and his crew set forth with their load of trees but never arrive in Chicago. The family waits but finally realizes their father and his ship are lost. Though they feel grief they choose to carry on the family tradition. Based on a real family this story brings home the power of tradition and continuity in our lives. Gentle framed pictures warm the pages and convey the emotion of this meaningful tale.
