The Tub People's Christmas

On a dark winter night, the Tub People are waiting "on a low wooden table before th fireplace." The Tub Child is sleepy and wants to go to sleep but his mother counsels him to wait and is grandfather gives him a hook saying, "You might need this tonight." Together they stand guard. Then, a noise is heard in the chimney. "This is it." What a magical moment as that long awaited, long hoped for figure emerges in all his glory into the room and sets about his task. /There is a moment of crisis when the family dog appears. He, who loves to toss them up in the air, just might destroy all they have waited for. Then, one by one, the Tub People are gathered into his pocket. It's dark there. They wait. Then, they are carefully, gently removed one by one to go somewhere new and unexpected. There, they stand guard magnificently. What a wondrous testimony to the job that falls to us all to guard and protect all that we hold to be truly of value in this world especially for our children.
