If this one doesn't become a classic, I'll eat my hat.

Griffin is one very lucky little boy. Every day his grandmother looks around her house, spies an ordinary object, and then spins a magnificent tale for Griffin that opens his imagination, builds his inner bravery, teaches him that adventures can be wonderful, and magnificently gives him a toolbox for navigating life by creating stories for him that he will remember forever. There is warmth and there is light on every page and you can feel the love that is being deeply planted in every little fiber of his being.

It's amazing how we remember stories that someone tells in a speech and we easily lose the statistics and the theories. We are just plain old wired for story. So the teapot that inspires his grandma to spin the tale of Rapunzel and the bulbs that rise from the flower pot inspiring the tale of Jack have a mighty power to teach Griffin about courage and perseverance and believing in yourself.

Turns out our dear friend Griffin will need those gifts sooner than any of us expects because his beloved storytelling grandmother is going to lose the sparkle in her eye. What can Griffin do? What can he call upon in himself to be able to let her go?

Every child needs someone to believe in him/her/them. This book believes in children. This book believes in the power of story to build and inspire children. This book tells children quite plainly that they are lovable, they can learn what they need to help them succeed as they grow up, and that stories are one of the greatest gifts anyone will ever give them.
