The Small Adventure of Popeye and Elvis

Popeye is trapped in the small world of his grandmother, his uncle and a stain on the ceiling that drips water when it rains. Nothing ever changes until the day he turns a corner and finds a miracle. The miracle comes in the form of the Holiday Rambler motorhome that has gotten stuck in the mud at the side of the road. That Holiday Rambler is filled with the Jewell family and they bring all kinds of possibilities with them. The best thing they bring is Elvis, the eldest boy, who is looking for the same kind of adventure as Popeye. Together, the two boys will head off in search of a small adventure. They look for it under rocks and down trails and even out at the gas station on the main road. Nothing. Boring, boring, boring. Then, a small adventure floats right down stream to them and the excitement begins. How long will one-eyed Popeye get to share these amazing times with Elvis? Long enough to begin to ask his boundaries, "So what?" This is one of those books that rings true from the minute you pick it up and holds such promise that you almost hold your breath that it won't disappoint you. It doesn't. Fabulous.
