This lively picture book is full of basic concepts that all youngsters need to know as they start school. Concepts covered include the alphabet, counting, opposites, shapes, colors, and seasons. What makes this book so appealing is Fisher’s use of photographs of her fun retro toy collection to illustrate the concepts. For example, the colors are illustrated with groups of various objects in the featured color — the black and white page includes a dairy cow, dice, a bowling ball and pin as well as other objects. There are so many different objects in each photo; even the youngest of readers will enjoy looking at this fun and creative concept book over and over. I speak from experience -- my one-year-old loves looking at the colorful pictures and naming the objects he recognizes. This engaging book is fun for the entire family! 40 pages

Honest, wise, and inspiring, each of the twenty poems in this dazzling collection resounds with the unique rhythms of life, as seen through the eyes of African American children.""--from the publisher
