Run for your life....here he comes! It's the odious ogre and he's "invulnerable, impregnable, insuperable, indefatigable, insurmountable." No wonder all the townspeople are stuffing their ears with "stale cake" and rolling themselves up into balls and hiding under the kitchen table. This ogre has it easy. He wonders hither and yon eating people up wherever he goes. No one can stop him. He has enormous boots and great big fingers and when he walks through the forest he is much taller than all of the trees. But everything changes on the day he goes out for a snack and meets a pretty young gentlewoman who offers him kindness. Kindness? Kindness? He doesn't want kindness. He wants to scare her to death and make her realize how very ferocious he really is. Does this sound like a great read aloud? The illustrations of the ogre are wondrously scary and you have to look waaaay up to see the top of him. What will become of him? Will anything save this brave young woman from being his morning snack? This is the kind of book people children will listen to over and over again. 32 pages Ages 4-8
