When the telegraph taps out the bad news that the dreaded, fearsome Dirk Yeller is coming to town, everyone is worried and wondering what trouble lies ahead. Dirk is a man who starts stampedes, holds up trains, and he's just "trouble." Everyone is worried, that is, except young Sam who has starated a bit of trouble himself from time to time with home run balls and the occasional toad. Dirk arrives with an itch and a twitch, with a jumping and rattling and the says, "I won't stop until I find what I'm lookin' for." Illustrated from the bottom up or the top down, Dirk is a man of small brown pants and an enormous barrel chest and belly just seconds away from bursting out of his orange striped shirt. The townsfolk are quick to pass him from the post office to the general store and on to the saloon and the sheriff but no one has a good answer for Dirk.... except maybe Sam. This is a rootin'-tootin' comedy that will capture children's curiosity and sense of fun. What could possibly calm this outlaw down? Librarians could have helped Dirk on page one. It takes these amateurs 30 pages to find the perfect answer to a restless mind. Ages 5-8 40 pages 978-0374317423
