Thirteen-year-old Cody had a tumor removed from his leg last year. He yearns to get back out on the soccer field but his mom is scared he isn’t healed enough yet to be ready. When his mom finally relents and lets him try out for the Lions-a team that is becoming promising in the division, it surprises even him when he makes it. He doesn’t want anyone to know that he had cancer, even though he is teased and called names because of his bald head by some of his teammates. When he does finally come clean he finds that most of his teammates encourage him to trust his skill and go for it. Even though he accomplished his dream of being able to play soccer again he is met with many obstacles that threaten whether he will be able to play or not. As tension rises between him and some of the other players and he watches as their team seems to fall apart Cody finds inner strength within himself as he preservers and struggles to find a way to succeed and be a winner. 9781459405127 216 pages Ages 10 -14 Editor's Note: David Skuy publishes with Scholastic Canada.
