In a futuristic world that has suffered from a cataclysmic event, King Voske is trying to take over more and more territory. The enclosed community of Las Anglas has granted asylum to the prospector Ross even though he is a stranger and there is a bounty hunter following closely behind him. The bounty hunter, hired by King Voske, is hoping to get his hands on the latest rare artifact Ross has uncovered, a printed book.

Told through the perspective of five different narrators, readers get a diversified picture of life in Las Anglas which is divided between people who have experienced “The Change,” a mutation that grants special powers, and “the Norms,” who have been chemically unaffected. The citizens jockey for power in this community and there are often disagreements about who may occupy the most influential positions.

Set in a unique future world with singing trees that can kill and a doctor who has the ability to heal the sick by speeding up time and aging his patients, this speculative fiction story is highly imaginative. With plenty of action including an intense culminating battle, readers will remain on the edge of their seats until the end of book one in this new series.
