One of my favorite books for young adults is Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher. That book centers on a swim team and the high school culture they boys live within. This book takes four guys, who are on a swim team, and explores their paths to manhood, as their swim team coach challenges them. The young men are gritty and struggling with real life challenges, and now they are up against the physical, mental and emotional challenges of an endurance test and another unexpected test handed to them by life.
