One day a mysterious lady arrives at the inn with the gift of storytelling, and she slowly transforms the villagers and Rendi himself. As she tells more stories and the days pass, Rendi begins to realize that perhaps it is his own story that holds the answers to all the questions he has.

The moon has disappeared from the night sky as a Rendi, young boy on the run enters the Village of Clear Sky. As he settles in as chore boy, a remarkable guest comes, a mysterious lady who has stories to tell in exchange for Rendi’s story as well as the story of the innkeeper and his neighbor. As the stories unfold, so unfolds the mystery of Rendi’s identity and the mystery of the missing moon. Each beautiful story leaves the reader wanting more until the predictable conclusion (since all the stories have neatly laid out the clues.) This is a companion to Grace Lin’s Where the Mountain Meets the Moon.
