"All the little rabbits that lived in the wood had brothers and sisters. All except Smudge." Smudge asks his mother why he doesn't have a brother or a sister and his mother tells him to wait until spring. As the seasons pass, Smudge tries to make a brother or a sister. In the winter he makes a snow rabbit - a sister. But no, she can't really play with him. As the snow melts, he makes a mud rabbit. When spring comes Smudge looks in every bush and bramble but he can't find a baby bunny anywhere. Then, happily when he goes home, his mother shows him the two baby brothers and the baby sister who are waiting to meet him. This is a wonderful book to read to an older brother or sister while they are waiting for the new baby to arrive at their house. 32 pages
