A beautiful oak tree has become part of Alice's family.  They love to lie out under the shade of its great branches and tell stories, take naps and host family picnics.  Then, one day, Alice notices that the something is different.  The grass that is growing under the oak tree is turning yellow and has a strange smell.  Then, the leaves start to all off the tree even though it's the spring.

They bring in a tree doctor who discovers that the tree is dying because of chemicals that have been illegally dumped in its ground area.  Courageously, the family, the neighbors, the fire department and even the telephone company come together to do something good to save the tree.  Sadly, they cannot save it.

But Alice remembers the acorns she has saved from this tree and she gently plants a an acorn to begin the wonder of a giant oak yet again.
