Sitting in My Box

You know those classic picture books we love have a simplicity and an empathy for children that reaches deep and keeps them on the bookshelf forever. Here is one of those old friends. A young boy has found himself a quiet place to read his book about wild animals and that place is a wonderful big brown cardboard box. He settles in quite comfortably and pretty soon those animals aren't just on the pages of his book. No, they are in fact starting to join him in the box. First, a giraffe insistently asks to climb in and she's followed by a whole jungle full of animals including an elephant, a baboon, a lion and a hippopotamus. At least they knock before entering. It starts to get quite crowded in that box. Someone is going to have to get out to make room for the others. Who will it be? What a gaggle! What a herd! What a gang! Then, the flea buzzes in without a knock I might add and everything goes topsy turvy. Talk about a great read aloud with simple text, bold pictures and a delightful sense of humor that will at first intrigue young listeners and then get them giggling. 32 pages Ages 3-7
