In the late 1990s, a local couple bought Sherjahaan (land of the tigers), a patch of land next to the famous Ranthambore Tiger Reserve in India. Once tigers roamed freely there, but over-farming and tree-felling upended the ecological balance, and the ground was barren. The couple, moved by the possibilities, got to work. They removed invasive species and fenced the land off from people’s interference, too.
