Ruby Electric

Dad has left the family, and Ruby and her brother, Pete, ache to have him back in their lives. Ruby fantasizes that he’s off on a CIA or an FBI mission, and that’s why he has disappeared. Through a school project, Ruby makes friends with two misfits and does some growing and exploring. Together Ruby and Pete take on the project of finding Dad. This is a real coming of age story and explores the powerful feelings kids have for their parents, no matter what. When you are twelve years old and your father has left the family, your mother is struggling, you are caring for your younger brother and making some mistakes, and in the sanctuary of your own room you're writing a play, life can be painful, maddening, disappointing and filled with indomitable spirt and hope. 270 pages Ages 9-13
