The perfect summer romance has arrived! Jenny Han meets The Royal We in this YA romcom about an American girl who finds herself falling for the Prince of England during a whirlwind summer in Scotland. Perfect for fans of Harry and Megan, Will and Kate, and love that breaks all the rules.
Aspiring writer Hannah has scored the opportunity of a lifetime—escaping her sleepy Midwestern town for the summer to intern in Scotland for her favorite author. But her plan to spend the next few months being the best assistant ever is derailed when her idol suddenly decides to abscond to Japan with her boyfriend.
So it almost seems too good to be true when a mysterious stranger—a tall, obnoxiously cute stranger—she meets at the pub one night gets her job at the royal family’s castle in Inveresk. It’s only when she shows up to her first day of work that she realizes the stranger is Finnian, the prince of England.
Finn is confined at Inveresk as punishment for his party boy antics, and clearly just wants Hannah around for his own amusement. But the more she gets to know him, the more she wonders if this is just a fling or if she’s found herself in a star-crossed summer romance that she never could have imagined…

Disappointment is hard for everyone so when Hannah gets off the plane in Edinburgh ready for the summer of a lifetime working for the author she admires the most and in the space of two days loses the job she's barely begun and along with it her place to live, we feel her pain and we watch her dreams go out the window. Where do you go now? Back home?
On her way back to her room, Hannah decides to have a look a the pub scene near the Royal Mile. Lucky for her, she almost immediately gets drawn into a group who is thrilled to have an American to teach them everything with the cool factor in the States. She gets along with everyone except this one guy who really think the sun rises and sets on him. They are really enjoying themselves until suddenly someone sees an ex headed that way and the whole group needs a way to make a fast exit. So, Hannah show them the back door - since the pub they are hanging out in happens to be part of the same building where she has her room.
So, there's the set up. Takes a few days but the guy with the high opinion of himself actually helps Hannah find a job and along with the job a nice little cottage where she can stay while she is working. The job happens to be in the gift shop of a Scottish castle.
I'm sure by now you've figure out that the guy - the one who is so helpful - is actually a prince of England. He hasn't told Hannah yet but one minute in the gift shop shows her his face on the mugs, the hand towels and everything else.
This is a romp of a story with the prince showing up consistently to show Hannah around and little by little the sparks turn into much more. We've got a couple of scenes that would get the R-rating. "We move together; he touches me until I cry out..."
You read a lot of these romances and they stick to the kisses and the intense longing .... this one is not that book. It's a fun romance, a great summer read and enough steam to make it worthy of 14 and 15 year old readers. Get the sun tan lotion, the chair, the cold beverage, and give yourself a couple of hours of bliss and satisfaction... so to speak.
