Red As Royal Blood

The Inheritance Games gets the royal treatment in this paperback original thriller that combines courtly intrigue, succession drama, and romance.

Ruby has never found a puzzle she couldn’t solve. Even though she’s destined to spend the rest of her life as a servant to the royal family, her mind itches for a true challenge. But no puzzle could prepare her for the king’s decision to name Ruby as the next heir to the throne just before his death.

Thrown into the viper’s nest of court, Ruby is forced to contend with a kingdom in crisis, the dead king’s angry wife, and the three entitled and annoyingly handsome princes. Then, as if being newly crowned queen wasn’t enough, she discovers a note left by the king that claims he was murdered . . . and that she might be next.

Unsure of who she can trust, Ruby makes uneasy alliances with each of the princes as she tries to solve the king’s murder. But with the clock winding down, she will face her most difficult challenge yet: finding the truth before the killer comes for her.---from the publisher

**********

Paedyn had a lot of self reliance and we went with her on every adventure to see how she was going to succeed this time.   She was girl of the street.

So, now we are meeting Ruby, a castle maid, who loves to sneak away to play chess with  Rowan, one of princes in line for the throne.  Except.... the king has died... and the son in line for the throne is dead- did he jump off that tower?  Who will take the crown?

This is when the universe steps in and Ruby leaves behind the world of the castle where she dusts and lights fires and does all the regular duties of a maid.  Gone in the reading of the King's will.  King Octavius, from the grave, turns Ruby into the next queen of Lumaria.

One day she's dusting and the next day they are dressing her in velvet and furs.  But, leaving behind the routines she did as a maid means catapulting her into the new life she has been chosen for.  It's a life of power but it's also a life of intrigue.  How did King  Octavius die?  How did Sorren die?  Was there a shadow up on the Tower with him?

Paedyn had her choice now Ruby has hers.  Paedyn was very self reliant and Ruby is just finding her own strength.

Ruby now has to figure out how to be a queen at the same time she is using every bit of her courage to find out the truth of who is behind all of these deaths?  Most of all, she needs to find out who is trying to kill her.

Throw in the two princes, Rowan, her betrothed, and Asher the prince with the low growl of a voice and Ruby has a mystery on her hands.  Who can she trust?
