Little Puffling is nestled down in his burrow with his parents to feed him and keep him safe. But, as he grows up, he asks when he will be able to leave the burrow all by himself? Soon say Big Stripy Beak and Long Black Feather, his parents. So, day by day he gets bigger and stronger and his heart beats as "loudly and powerfully as the ocean waves." Then, when he's tall enough and strong enough he waddles out the door with a rub or two from his loving parents, and then plunges into the ocean where he is safe from the scary gulls. This is a wonderful story set in Australia but felt in families around the globe who have little ones learning to walk and talk and set off on their own.
