- George and his grandfather come back from the shopping with everything on their list and a pair of new plaid pants for Poppa. The pants are six inches too long but all the ladies in the family, Grandma Tiny, Big Mama and Aunt Viney are just too tired to hem them up for him.
- That night George is asleep in the kitchen when he begins to see ghosts...and he hears snipping noises. The next morning it turns out that during the night each one of the women had felt sorry that she hadn't agreed to hem the pants and each one had gotten up unbeknownst to the others and shortened them for Poppa.
- A fun, African American family tale about love and helping others and a grandson who ends up with new pants.
