Pinky and Rex and the Spelling Bee

Pinky, a boy, has a best friend named Rex, a girl. Today they're headed to school and Rex is worrying about the spelling bee. She's a terrible speller and she hates being the first one to sit down. The dreaded bee begins and sure enough, down goes Rex. That leaves Pinky trying to decide if he should be the one to win the spelling bee or be somehow true to his friendship with Rex and just throw the whole shebang. Enter Anthony, the new kid in the class who is spelling pretty well. Will Pinky lose the spelling bee to Anthony for the first time? After a break for lunch, the class comes back and the spelling bee resumes. Pinky has forgotten to make the all-important stop at the boys bathroom and now he finds he's more worried about his bottom half than his reputation as a champion speller. When he spells his last word....oh, I think I'll just let you read the story. A beautifully written of honest feelings between two friends and the outside threat. A compelling easy reader for those who are looking for a book with a bit of substance and resonance. 40 pages A Ready-To-Read Level 3 Ages 5-8 (series)
