At the age of 13, her father dead and her mother and sister missing, Parvana is on her own in war ravaged Afghanistan. Her journey to find her missing family will bring her to one tragedy after another. There's a baby with no parents and a boy with only one leg and very little hope among the survivors. This is another gritty, realistic portrayal of life for young people in this part of the world that has dwindled to minefields, orphans and desperation. Parvana will make her way to a refugee camp with still no hope of finding her family. A perfect read for our times. Ages 10-14 170 pages
