When the second baby comes along, there can be a bit of a worry about if and how the existing sibling will take to the new family member. Will the green monster show up along with the newborn? Will there be violence? Screaming? Despondency even?
This book is the absolute antidote to all green monster fears because it is so doggone smart. Sure, it's about the arrival of the new baby. But we don't get to the arrival until the very end. Brilliantly, this book spends its attention-grabbing paper capital on the child who is in the family already. In this case it's the big brother but it could easily be imagined as the big sister book.
Acknowledging the child you have now is the most beautiful thing you can do with and for that young one. Meet Spencer. You see his happy, energetic self just exuding from the pages. And who exactly is Spencer? What kind of a guy is he?
Turns out Spencer is strong, fast, funny, free...well, you get the idea. This little guy is a fantastic. By the time you've turned all the pages, the little listener by your side or on your lap is going to be feeling pretty darn great. When you're feeling great, you have room for somebody else in your family. You know you are enough all by yourself and you can share the love. And it turns out that when the new baby comes, you become even bigger and better.
This is my absolute favorite new brother, new sister book when the new baby is just around the corner.

Spencer is about to find out.
He's as strong as a bear, as funny as a monkey, and as wild as a tiger. But on one special day, everything changes. Now Spencer is strong, funny, wild, brave, free . . . and gentle, too.
