Good for Reluctant Readers?

Any book with a bright red cover and a purple long-faced dog on it gets my attention and I'm so glad I picked this one up. If you do story times for young children or have a young listener in your life who loves to laugh, this is a great option.

Harry is about to go out which will leave George the dog all by himself. Can George behave himself? Will he be good? George promises to be good. He thinks he'll be good. George even hopes to be good. But we all know about the call of the wild and that's what gets into George as one temptation after another crosses his path.

Now, will George be good? Oh my. Oh me. Oh dear. Self-control is truly highly overrated when it comes to cats, cakes and dirt.

This is a wonderful romp of a story through the world of dog and dog delights. It's also a story every child will know well because you want to be good, you think you'll be good and you said you'd be good but sometimes the good just goes right out of you! Great fun and a bit about making amends as well.

************ Harris is going out and as he bids farewell to his pet dog George, he implores George to be good.

Of course George promises, but when you're left in the house alone there are so many temptations... Will George be good?

Young readers will love this hilarious story as they predict whether George will be able to resist temptation. What would they do? Haughton's distinctive artwork adds to the appeal, underlining why this book has remained in print, and this is the 10th anniversary edition.
