Fifth-grader Trip Dinkleman hates to read, but he finds himself helping a parent volunteer set up the school book fair. In the process of opening a crate, Trip is hit on the head by some heavy books. While unconscious, he finds himself traveling through a story of sports fiction, then onto science fiction, adventure, fantasy, humor and even girls' fiction, to name a few.

He is pushed out of a plane without a parachute and goes on a quest for a gold-plated knick-knack accompanied by a kooky dwelf. (I love the kooky dwelf.) Humor abounds as he wakes up horrified to find in one chapter that he is a girl living in a pink room.

This book really gives reluctant readers exposure to all sorts of children's literature. It's a buffet actually and just might lead to a reader saying, "Hey, I'd like to read more books like that chapter." Each chapter is like a short story making it great for readers who struggle to stay with a character for a full 200-page book.
