Ten-year-old Libby Mitchell is moving with her parents from Virginia to Michigan in 1837. Although she is excited, the journey is very hard—with bad weather, mud, and a flooded river to deal with. As Libby’s family nears their new home, her father meets a Potawatomi man whose daughter is very ill with the measles. The Mitchells care for the girl until she is well, and Libby finds she has a wonderful new friend in this amazing new place. The story continues in Night of the Full Moon and Shadow of the Wolf. 64 pages
